Need A Bug?

I am a fan of this software I have been using and would recommend it to anyone. I am not the best at keeping my maintenance updated on my PC and this is a really useful tool to have. I have posted the link so you can view this and read the literature and see the options it offers. I chose the lifetime because I had such a good experience with it and the support is great! www.bugdoctor.com I have tried one that was similar and the installation was just so time consuming and frustrating. This one is so simplified to follow and getting it going was immediate upon purchase. If for any reason you do purchase another PC you can easily transfer it to your other or additional computer. Great product!!

Hardware failure tip of the day

We often wonder what can cause hardware failure, two reasons. First the hardware device fails, or the device driver the hardware uses fails. The first step needs to be determining if it is the device or driver.

A computer has a number of parts. One signle component failure or a combination of component failures can prevent the computer from correct functionality. There are some preventative measures in which you can take and I will mention a few. One is to make sure the hardware components are operating in the environmental conditions that are recommended. For example, avoid using hardware components in areas with high volumes of dust or high temperatures unless the hardware has been specifically designed for such environments.

Now onto why device drivers can fail: Incompatibility, drivers bugs or 32- bit/64-bit issues. Windows vista is available in 32 bit and 64 bit. Drivers developed for the 32 bit edition do not work with the 62 bit editions, and vice versa. You should ensure that you obtain the appropriate device driver from the hardware vendor.

Accidental Program Loss

Just an FYI about the protection against program loss …. this is not a tool that Windows XP has available but users will find this with Vista. The restore creates points when you add or remove programs, and it also keeps copies of application programs-file names that have an .exe or .dll file name extension. If you did happen to accidentally delete an .exe file, you can use the system restore to recover the file by selecting a recent restore point prior to the program deletion. I think this is really cool feature they added. Getting smarter and smarter………

Technology has gone color

I can remember the day you went to shop for a new PC and there were few things you needed to function. Now not only do you get size option but let me tell you, you get colors of the rainbow to chose from. What happened to just the typical white and black selection. That is so gone so what is next… hmmm let you imagination wonder. It does not end with computer’s though it extends to appliances for your kitchen and even your washer and dryer. I might go for the hot pink or red washer and dryer. Maybe there is a theory to the bright colors and making you feel a little more cheerful and excited about doing your laundry. If I decide to branch out and try one of these color schemes I will pass on the pros and con’s of the bright side!

Compatibility issues with device drivers

When obtaining a device driver written specifically for windows vista you will find that you will need to check with the hardware vendor to find out if there are known issues when using a driver designed specifically for windows xp on a pc running Vista. There are about four compatibility issues that can be included. I found that if your not able to obtain a device driver written for Windows Vista, you may be able to use a Windows XP driver. Be sure and test any driver that is not written specifically for Windows Vista before using it with Vista. Numerous errors can arise when trying to use a driver that is not specifically developed for Vista. Two of the categoris this pretains to are INS references and paths and the Access control list (ACL) restrictions. This pretains to the legacy device drivers.

How to clean start up menu..

There has been numerous requsest to this issue and it can sound like such a variety of directions to take. Found this simple fix to be very useful.

* Start by cleaning out your Startup folder. Find it in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Startup, where username is your Windows logon name. Delete the shortcuts of any programs you don’t want to run on start-up. As with any shortcuts, when you delete them, you’re deleting only the shortcut, not the program itself. (You can also clear out the start-up items by going to Start > Programs > Startup, then right-clicking items you want to remove.)

* Next, clean out your Scheduled Tasks folder. Go to C:\Windows\Tasks, and delete the shortcuts of any programs that you don’t want to run automatically on a schedule.

Note: You can bypass all the programs in your Startup folder on an as-needed basis. To stop XP from loading any programs in the Startup folder, hold down the Shift key during bootup. No programs in the Startup folder will run, but the items will still remain there so that they will start up as they would normally the next time you boot.

Using the system configuration utility
Taking the previous steps will stop the obvious programs from running at start-up, but it won’t kill them all. The best tool for disabling hidden programs that run on start-up is the System Configuration Utility. To run it, type msconfig at a command prompt, and press Enter. (If that doesn’t work, first do a search for msconfig.exe; when you find the file, double-click it.)

* To stop a program from running at start-up, go to the Startup tab in this utility, and uncheck the box next to the program. It can sometimes be difficult to understand what programs are listed on the Startup tab. Some, such as America Online, are clearly labeled. But often, you’ll see a phrase or collection of letters, such as fs20. That’s the name of the running file–such as fs20.exe, which is Free Surfer mk II, an excellent free pop-up killer.

* To get more information about a listing, expand the width of the Command column near the top of the Startup tab. Expand it enough and you’ll see the start-up command that the program issues, including its location, such as C:\Program Files\Free Surfer\fs20.exe. The directory location should be another hint to help you know the name of the program.

* When stopping programs from running at start-up, it’s best to stop them one at a time rather than in groups. You want to make sure that you’re not causing any system problems by stopping them. So stop one, then restart your PC. If it runs fine, then stop another and restart. Continue doing this until you’ve cleared all the programs you don’t want to run automatically.

Each time you uncheck a box and restart your PC, you’ll get a warning that you’ve used the System Configuration Utility to disable a program from starting automatically. If you don’t want to see that warning, disable it by checking the box in the dialog itself.

After you’ve used the system configuration utility to identify programs that run on start-up, you may want to try disabling them from with the programs themselves. So run each program that starts automatically, and see if you can find a setting that allows you to prevent it from running on start-up.

I am a support specialist and speak to many people on a daily basis about computer related issues. There seems to always be confusion on knowing what software will address certain issues on your pc. I get many questions of why it will work in one area and won’t another. I know to the ametuer computer user it can be very confusing. There are so many products floating around the internet today and sometimes trying to decide which one is almost too much to bare. First off you always want a company that has support and not just support but many different support alternatives to provide for their customers for when you run into those troublesome times. Nobobdy likes to purchase and feel like your alone with nowhere to turn for assistance whether it be for installation issues, troubleshooting confliction with your pc, etc.

Select wisely when making decisions on your next purchase and look for support numbers to be available to call. Live chat help is also a good source of support as well. Good luck !!

Look, listen, learn and don’t touch

We often hear from the computer user that their elderly parent, teenager or even young child have attempted to get on the pc and create havic. We then turn to the newest lastest most reputable software for help and in all reality it’s probably the computer user just blaming their elderly parent, teenager or whomever. I once have been there myself although of course I didn’t take the blame. lol I love the fact that we have so many options at our finger tips to help us out of these troublesome times with our pc’s. One that stands out in my mind that has seemed to save me many times is the www.pcregistrycleaner.com what a life saver this has been. It seems to be a well written program with simplified installation. That is to just mention one of several that I can think of that have been a very useful in conjunction with the to blame users.

P.S. elderly, teenagers, young children, amateur compuer users etc. keep up the good work! The software developers have got to love it!!

Driver update program

I was browsing the internet and looking for a utility in order to cut out all the time consuming hassles that can come along with keeping your drivers updated. I found this software called PC Updater and am very curious about it’s functionality. I really never realized the importance of keeping this done so frequent to maintain your computer and found you should do this every couple months. I will pass my results of the program as soon as I try it!!
